Ryan McVinney with Boat Trader and Captain Jeff Lagrew from America's Boating Club go over some basics on how to anchor a boat in this informative educational boating video. Covered in this video are the correct scope for your anchor line, using a brand new Four Winns H4 boat from Intermarine to explain the process. The scope is a ratio between the length of an anchor rode (or anchor line) from the anchor to where it attaches to the boat, and the depth of the water. The recommended scope ratio for the anchor rode line on most boats is 7:1, although some choose to go with 5:1 (especially if there is a chain on the end of the anchor line). Also covered is how to gauge the currents, wind and water conditions as well as the weather and water depths in order to choose a safe place to anchor. Finally the two discuss is how to drop the anchor safely and raise it back up when ready to depart from an anchorage.
