It's finally here, after 5 long years we finally have the next mainline sonic game. Sonic Frontiers is being touted as the “next evolution” of sonic, aiming to lay the groundwork for the next era of sonic games, similar to how adventure and unleashed did when they came out. This time, sonic is tackling open world gameplay, excuse me, open “zone” gameplay to be more accurate. The lead up to this game has been arduous to say the least. The initial marketing cycle for this game was abysmal. People didn’t really know what the game was or what it was about, thanks to Sega playing up the mystery aspect of the game’s plot, going so far as to ban gameplay recording at some events. Once reviews finally came out, instead of clearing the air with a definitive judge of the games quality, they were split down the middle, some calling it the worst sonic game ever made, and others calling it the pinnacle of the series. So, know that I’ve sat down and played the thing, what's the verdict? Well…It's good…but. I’m extremely conflicted with how I feel about Frontiers. I feel that this game embodies both the best and worst aspects of the franchise, all in one nice little package…with a pretty little bow on top. I'll get into the specifics a little more later, but on the whole I’m very conflicted about this game and what it means for the series going forward. How does the open zone evolve Sonic? Does the plot finally have steaks again? Is the combat engaging or just a simple distraction? What was he cooking? Find out all of this and more, as we take a deep dive into Sonic Frontiers.

I don't know how to feel about Sonic Frontiers. Sonic Frontiers is a super fun open world game. This is a Sonic video essay. Sonic Frontiers is the newest and greatest game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. In this Sonic Frontiers video, I will be reviewing the game as a whole.
