For about as long as I can remember, Disney has been a constant presence in my life. Whether it was watching countless Mickey Mouse shorts as a child, or going to the big new Marvel movie as an adult, they always find a way to creep somewhere in my life on a pretty much daily basis. Being a certified gamer at heart, it's only natural that I would gravitate towards their video game efforts. I can’t tell you how many hours I poured into their vast library of licensed games, some of which were really good, some of which were epic mickey 2. As much fun as I had with these games, they're rather simple nature only kept me entertained for so long. As I grew older, I thought I had simply grown out of Disney stuff, but then I discovered a small little series known as Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts is an action rpg crossover game between Disney and Square Enix, creating a franchise that's like nothing else I’d ever seen up until that point, and remains special even decades later. What could have been a simple cash grab has quickly become one of my favorite series ever made. The heart and charm that Disney became famous for is more than present here, and it's led to the creation of characters and story that still resonates with me as much now as it did back when I first played in the early 2010s. The series gets a lot of flack for being needlessly convoluted, and while later games in the series definitely get a little wacky, it's hard to deny the simplicity and charm of the original ps2 game. Join me today as we go back to the early 2000s, to take a look at the game that started it all. Welcome to Kingdom Hearts, a simple and clean experience.
