Let's Play Persona 3 (FES) Part 3 - A New Team Member & Tartarus
Continuing on from the previous part, we finally get back to school after being knocked out for a week.
Before school starts, Yukari tells us that Ikutsuki wants to talk to us later today.
We then get a class with the samurai obsessed history teacher.
He only cares about the sengoku period, so he gets really bored teaching any other period in time.
Out of boredom he asks Junpei to answer what kind of houses people lived in during the Jomon period.
We are then tasked with giving Junpei the answer to this question.
Not really knowing much Japanese history, I have no idea what time period this was!
But since the correct answer is mud huts, it was clearly a very time ago! (About 14,000 to 300 BC long ago!)
After school, we talk to Ikutsuki and the other students staying at the dorm.
It is here where we finally get introduced to Akihiko, and learn about the dark hour.
They also reveal that they are actually a group called the specialised/specialized extracurricular execution squad, or SEES for short.
We are also told about shadows and personas, the latter of which they use to fight the shadows that appear during the dark hour.
Seeing as we can summon a persona, they want us to join the squad.
Since the plot obviously can't continue without us, I agree to join, and get an evoker that is used to summon our persona. (It's design is like a gun.)
With the squad happily welcoming us, we get our first social link!
This social link is the fool arcana, and is one of the few social links that level up automatically throughout the story.
After thinking about what Igor said about social links, we wake up in bed during the dark hour and find that creepy boy from the intro is back again.
He cryptically tells us of the end coming soon before leaving. (He also says he is always watching us, which is pretty creepy!)
Moving onto the next day, we hear from Akihiko that a new persona user will be moving into the dorm.
And that person is a guy we've met before, Junpei Iori!
Yukari is surprised to learn that he has potential, and Junpei tells us how Akihiko saved him when he first experienced the dark hour.
After chatting for a bit, Akihiko tells us that we will finally get to explore tartarus soon.
But before we get to that, we have school to get through!
During school, Mitsuru enters our classroom to tell the three of us (The protagonist, Yukari and Junpei) to come back to the dorm right after school.
Meeting with everyone after school, we learn about a mysterious place that appears during the dark hour, which they call tartarus. (My capture card disconnects during this scene, much to my annoyance! But I got it working again pretty quickly!)
Tartarus is seen as the nest of shadows, so the goal is to explore it as much as possible.
With more persona users now involved, exploring this place is now viable.
We are then taken to our school, which during the dark hour turns into a giant mess of a tower that they call tartarus. (Shouldn't it be going down rather than up if it is tartarus?)
This place looks cool on the outside, and the entrance is pretty neat, but the dungeon itself is really generic!
But before we can explore, we have to form a group.
Since Akihiko is still injured, we are assigned as the leader of our group for this visit. (The group being the protagonist, Yukari and Junpei.)
Before doing anything else, we open a mysterious door that takes us to the velvet room.
Igor tells us about our potential to wield multiple personas, and says that he will help us with this.
Returning back to reality, we find out that nobody else can see the door or the velvet room.
But looking like a weird guy to the others aside, how will this first visit to tartarus play out? Find out in the next part!
