2What will San Francisco be like in the year 2049? Well according to San Francisco Rush 2049, the Golden Gate City might see stunt wings come out of cars that are either rocket-powered, F1, muscle, or even pickup trucks when they get huge air. This is the Midway Arcade Treasures 3 port of San Francisco Rush 2049 on the original Xbox using the SEGA Dreamcast version from 2000 (more below in the description).
San Francisco Rush 2049 was originally developed by Atari for the arcades in 1999, but got a console release in 2000 for the SEGA Dreamcast, N64 (Nintendo 64), and even a GBC (Game Boy Color) version. Midway Games handled the console versions (DC and N64) while Handheld Games did the GBC version. The SEGA Dreamcast port was rereleased for the Midway Arcade Treasures 3 compilation on the PS2 (PlayStation 2), GameCube, and Xbox (seen here) as well as Midway Arcades Treasures: Deluxe Edition on PC.
The Dreamcast and N64 ports are different from it's arcade counterpart. They include a Twisted Metal like battle mode, stunt wings for every car, no checkpoint timer in races, six cars on track (eight in the arcade), product placement with Dickies and Slim Jim advertisements (Slim Jim was replaced in the MAT3 versions with the Midway logo), and the exclusion of the Alcatraz track which was in the arcade version.
Now what's interesting about this game is that Midway Games had plans to create a double package including both Hydro Thunder and San Francisco Rush 2049 under the name "Hydro Rush for the PlayStation 2, which would have sounded awesome. But for some unknown reason the game was canceled and the project moved to the Midway Arcade Treasures 3 compilation.
