I'm not going to sugarcoat it: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are not good-looking games.
When I first started playing Violet, I was immediately struck by the janky presentation and rough graphics. But as I delved deeper, I found that the game was a lot better than it looked.
The new open-world format allowed me to choose my own path, which made the game feel more strategic and challenging. And the new mechanics, like auto-battling, added a level of variety to the core gameplay loop that I really appreciated.
I've skipped a lot of the past Pokémon titles because they all felt more or less the same, but this was hands down the most fun I've had playing a mainline Pokémon game in a long time.
Don't get me wrong, it's extremely disappointing that the performance and graphics of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet don't match the quality of the gameplay, but fortunately, the majority of the problems are only skin deep.
