It makes some people motion sick. The hardware can be expensive. And the games… Well, most of them just aren’t good enough to justify all the baggage.
Because of all that, it can be hard to recommend VR games. But I just can’t help it here.
I want to tell you about the Moss series, because I think these might be the perfect games for someone that’s new to VR or even for those who think that VR games just aren’t for them.
Moss and its sequel are story-book fairy tales come to life, where you take on the double duty of playing as two separate characters simultaneously.
You interact with the world in first person as a masked onlooker called The Reader. At the same time, you also control the game’s protagonist, a mouse named Quill, in third person.
The scaled down environments are exceedingly charming and a delight to spend time in.
And, because each set piece is stationary, it's a very comfortable experience; nothing’s going to make you motion sick.
The combat and puzzles are exciting and clever, and when you add in the fact that these games each cost less than half the price of most new games, I end up with nothing but good things to say.
Moss and Moss: Book II are both shining examples of approachable VR gaming in its best light.
