Sonic Movie Character Development - Shadow Day 013
3Today work was started on a really rough first pass edit on the facial expressions. Tried my best to emulate some key morph looks as expressions Sonic had in the movie franchise but of course the avatar I work with is not nearly as advance as that Paramount Hollywood magic and the toolset I am working with, walking from Zbrush to CC4 and back is buggy sometimes. For now I came to the conclusion that further face editing will be difficult if I have to keep looking at this ugly human base skin. So next session will be UVing the shoes, the new spines and new tail mesh, making the shoes and gloves a separate new UDIM and then making the spines themselves a separate new UDIM addition. Then dragging this whole thing into Substance for a texture pass. The shoes themselves may take a couple of days trying out ideas but I am tired of looking at this ugly gremlin and ready for it to transform more into Shadow.
If you are a CC4 user you may wanna follow this whole process just to keep up with some success stories, missteps and backtracks. There will be plenty of mistakes made I assure you, but the point is taking advantage of these pre-rigged humanoids, putting your own new bones and appendages on them and still retaining CC4s built in facial rigging if you are like me, a character modeler/texturer with no animation chops whatsoever. Come along for the journey, this mess is finna be wild!
