Starcraft 2 LotV Campaign - Harbinger of Oblivion Brutal - No unit upgrades, no spear of adun
This is part of a playthrough of the Starcraft2 Legacy of the void campaign without using the spear of adun, unit upgrades such as Dragoons, on the Brutal difficulty along with completing all bonus objectives for an extra challenge.
This is without using the Master's Archive, because it won't allow me to unpick my upgraded units.
I thought this would be cake... boy was I wrong. It probably took me the most attempts out of every mission so far.
You have 24mins 50 seconds to complete this mission before the swarm gets wiped out. I completed it with 24min 30sec...
The problem is that the void crystals have some serious backup, especially the last 2. You need to do a lot of hit and run with stalkers.
Once again, since this is a timed mission, you need to push as fast as possible, using stakers to hit and run a bit.
I used mostly stalkers, immortals, sentries, high templar and phoenixes. Stalkers are great for hit and runs, immortals destroys the hybrid waves that spawns after you kill your 2nd and 3rd crystal, high templars are only used for feedback to remove the massive damage dominators do and to get rid of units instantly. Phoenixes are probably not necessary, but they are free stuns and the first few groups have little units, and it gets rid of immortals for a few seconds which means i probably lost 10 less stalkers during the mission. Sentries are used on excess gas but you do want some to have some staying power for the last crystal.
First crystal is cake, use feedback on everything you can, wait until the zerg attacks, just hit and run with stalkers.
You attack the second crystal when kerrigan goes for it, have her and her ultralisk tank as much as possible, make sure you lose nothing. You shouldn't be able to pierce through with kerrigan so take your time after, there is no rush.
3rd Crystal you'll want to hit and run as much as you can without losing units: this base is too well equipped and running into it straight means youll lose a lot of units. Carriers and voidrays will kill stalkers quickly 1 by 1 so kill them quickly.
4th crystal is the toughest one. You want to push with kerrigan and have her tank the damage and seeker missiles. If you didn't do well on the mission, you won't have enough units to pierce through there. Make sure to use a lot of feedback on thors spectres battlecruisers... Immortals will shine there as theres a lot of armored units.
I hold back on killing the 2nd crystal because killing the 2nd and 3rd crystal spawns a wave of hybrids, which you want to be prepared for and lose few units.
I figure after this mission it will only get easier for the next few, as I'll be doing the Taldarim missions next and getting voidrays. Voidrays are so strong for the campaign it's ridiculous, since the enemy does not adapt to flying units.
