This is my play through of Starcraft Remastered Brood War with some random commentary. Sometimes you won't even notice I'm there.

Terran Mission 7 - Patriot's Blood

Following the unexpected turn of events on Aiur, the UED Fleet convenes a war council to decide their next step. Having confirmed that Raynor escaped with Mengsk through the warp gate on Aiur, the goal of capturing and Mengsk is no longer realistic. Some internal matters had to be dealt with first. Given that Vice Admiral Stukov left to take care of personal matters he did not elaborate on, Admiral Dugalle is left wondering what would cause his old friend to take a large contingent of troops from Aiur and lead them to Braxis shortly before the Zerg overran their temporary base on the Aiur.

Duran, who had been the one acting suspiciously, decides to plant seeds of doubt in Admiral Dugalle. Using the discovery of the Psi Disruptor's reconstruction to argue that Stukov went against Dugalle's orders to destroy, Duran leads Dugalle into believing that Stukov is attempting to sabotage the success of their mission of taming the Zerg.

Saddened by the evidence that supported the possibility his old friend had betrayed him, Admiral Dugalle gives Duran orders to find and "handle" the situation regarding Stukov.

Taking in a team of marines supported by medics, Duran leads a special task force to breach and enter the Psi Disruptor. Gunning down all the Stukov loyalists that stood in their way and forcing the passwords out of the technicians to locked doors, the team is able to locate the security screen and discern Stukov's location within the structure.

When the confrontation happens, Vice Admiral Stukov is unsurprised by Duran's presence and appeared quite certain of Duran's intentions. Even if Stukov was seen as a traitor, he would still be processed with a court martial if he surrendered. Instead of relieving Stukov of his command, Stukov knew that Duran came to end his life and. Revealing his traitorous intentions Duran fatally shoots Stukov and vanishes from sight.

Wanting a report on the situation, Dugalle opens a direct communications channel to discover that Stukov is dying and Duran is no where to be found. In his dying breath, Stukov exposes Duran as the traitor who had played them both from the beginning. Acting the part of an ambitious young officer, Duran inserted himself into the UED by demonstrating his resourcefulness and skill, offering useful intel that aided in the success of missions as well. It was the issue of the Psi Disruptor where Stukov began doubting Duran's motives.

The Psi Disruptor was out of Mengsk's reach given that the UED was free to claim it to begin with. Duran's argument that allowing such a device to exist would threaten the UED's plans to tame the Overmind made no sense if the UED was able to take it for themselves and defended against any efforts by Mengsk. The order of priority was taming the Overmind first and then worrying about what comes after. Stukov knew that the Psi Disruptor would be a powerful tool that would help the UED achieve their mission, and so would Dugalle until Duran planted the suggestion that what might come after something that hasn't even come to pass was more important.

The last piece of evidence that proved Duran a traitor in Stukov's eyes was the outcome of the mission on Aiur to capture Mengsk from Raynor sabotaged by Duran's absence that allowed fugitives to escape and forced the UED into retreat. The strength of the Zerg they fought on Aiur made it quite clear that the Psi Disruptor is the key the UED needed to accomplish their goal, and Stukov knew it. Dugalle was too proud to think the UED Fleet would need such a tool to achieve victory but finally had his eyes opened to the truth.

Learning the mistake he made in giving orders that led to the death of his old friend, a patriot through and through, Admiral Dugalle loses his composure momentarily, but collects himself quickly. The Psi Disruptor was set to self-destruct, an act likely caused by Duran. The UED needed to quickly reunite itself from the internal strife and manually shut off the self-destruct sequence. Stukov's suspicion that Duran might even be infested is supported by the appearance of Zerg in the Psi Disruptor.

After a frantic rush to the manual shut-down switch, the Psi Disruptor is saved and the UED pushes on towards its ultimate goal not wanting to waste the sacrifice made by Vice Admiral Stukov.
