The $50 6 Core Alternative to an i7
Now whilst we can't all afford an i7 there are plenty of underrated options out there that come pretty close. Take the Intel Xeon X5650 for example, a 6 Core, 12 Thread CPU that retails for around $50 /£50 on the used market. Although this sounds like a steal, it does require a pretty expensive socket 1366 motherboard which sort of dampens the deal, but the savings when compared to an i7 and the performance this thing offers when overclocked may just make this an offer you can't refuse.
So today we're going to be taking a look at the somewhat forgotten Xeon 5650, which seems to me like an excellent i7 alternative for us gamers on a budget. Our other components include 8GB of DDR3 Ram, a GTX 1060 as well as an i7 5820k that we borrowed for a comparison.
The games we tested are Fallout 4, Crysis 3, Grand Theft Auto V and Metro Last Light, with Dirt Rally being the gameplay during discussion.
Thanks for watching :)
