Associate Professor Peter Bos wonders what factors impact our caring behaviour and what the role is of hormones. Bos shows how he cares for his own family with three children, one of which has Down's syndrome. Furthermore, he goes to the Baby Fair and shows how certain apes show similar phenomena and emotions to those of humans. Finally, he gives a lesson in how, for example, stress, but also caring behaviour is largely determined by our hormones.

Part of 'Big Questions', a series in which science journalist Rob van Hattum takes a journey through science with eight Dutch researchers who are at the top of their field. Their 'big questions' are central. They tell about their heroes, visit special places and talk about the breakthroughs in their field.
