Why do I want Let's Go Eevee so ๐๐๐๐ก๐ฎ? (read description)
I may not pay attention to the modern Pokรฉmon games as much as the older ones, specifically the first 3 generations, but there is one game, from Gen 7, that contained something that made it become arguably the most wanted Pokรฉmon title in my life: ๐๐ฒ๐'๐ ๐๐ผ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฒ.
Being a Gen 1 veteran, my first Pokรฉmon game is Red, which is the very first title in the entire franchise alongside Blue (internationally), for the original Game Boy. But the Let's Go games, Pikachu and Eevee, are late, Gen 7 remakes of Pokรฉmon Yellow, the anime-like special edition of Red/Blue, and those are for the Nintendo Switch, designed to be 20th anniversary games of the Gen 1 original's release in Japan, in 1998. You guys may quite know I have a deep love for Eevee. So, what is the reason why I want Let's Go Eevee?
The story began ever since as a kid. I actually do own Yellow in its original cartridge, and that was my main GB Pokรฉmon game I used at the time since release rather than Red (until now), well past Gen 2, as it looked best in the Game Boy Color. But being used to the Pikachu theme for many years and had played related games like Hey You Pikachu or Pokรฉmon Channel, I never realized until as an adult, played XD Gale of Darkness (my ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ Pokรฉmon game) and looked at several Eevee moments in the anime, I had unwittingly ignored a very important role about the old Yellow game.
Back in the classic Gen 1 game, as anyone who really knows what I'm talking about, you do start with Pikachu in Yellow (literally Ash's Pikachu, as with the aforementioned spinoffs), and the rival has Eevee in an attempt to counter you. ๐๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ, you may know that Professor Oak actually intended you to have Eevee as the Starter Pokรฉmon, before Blue, beyond your control, runs and shoves you away before you grab it and then steals poor Eevee for himself. With this in mind, the brown fan-favorite cat-fox was supposed to be the ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ of Yellow! Sure, a Gameshark might help you quickly get a replacement shortly after the first battle, but you ultimately still have Pikachu following you as your Starter. As a kid, the shove felt hilarious compared to Red/Blue, but nowadays, it makes me angry since Eevee is one of my very favorite Pokรฉmon. It seems justice must be done, right? Well, that's when the Let's Go games come to play...
All the way into Gen 7, two decades later, the Switch got the much newer remixes of Yellow. The game overall is a nice recreation of the original, nostalgic late 1990s game, especially the environment, though I do notice it's designed to be easier, references Pokemon GO in catching Pokemon, and have the Starters be particularly strong. Regardless, when I saw the trailer plus a few game moments, I was ๐ฃ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฏ ๐ข๐ธ๐ข๐บ! The Pikachu version is just a mere repeat of Yellow...plus it's the ๐ด๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ฆ๐ด' ๐ฎ๐ข๐ด๐ค๐ฐ๐ต ๐ธ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ฆ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ช๐ฎ๐ฆ, so there's nothing special about that. But, the Eevee version, finally, after ๐บ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ด of waiting, Nintendo/Game Freak at last decided to give Eevee the love it desperately needed by actually let it officially be the Starter by reversing the roles, the way it was supposed to be!
Besides, Eevee felt undoubtedly unique in that game. Along with having the most beautiful graphics of the Pokemon yet thanks to the clean textures, adorable violet eyes instead of brown, and the special mark on the tail if female (which I perfer due to the voice and eyes), it acted exactly like from the anime, though saying "Eievui", the Japanese name, did feel a bit odd. The very fact you can interact with it (try making it sneeze!), nothing made me so happy - no previous game ever done this. Too bad you can't evolve it, in reference to Yellow, but the plus side is you can actually catch other Eevees, and, you can make those follow you, so you not only have the main Eevee, but also any of the three OG Eeveelutions following with you! With the extra unique moves based on all of its evolved forms' types, it is clear Eevee is the stronger choice just like the original Yellow (after all, Gary did beat Ash's Pikachu with Eevee in the anime once). Now, of course I do want other Pokemon games like Shield and Legends Arceus, but this game is my #1 pick for the Switch, and when I eventually do get it, I will live stream it ASAP to see if my long Gen 1 experience will carryover to Let's Go Eevee. This game ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ก๐ก๐ฎ did it right!
Here is a fun fact: Let's Go Eevee is the main inspiration of my Super Eevee. Sunshine, though based on her Eeveelution Squad counterpart, shares the same tail, eyes, and all of the exclusive special moves as the Partner Eevee, making her a deadly opponent and the most unique King Eevee in the family. She too doesn't want to evolve to remain the sole regular Eevee sibling.
