“Brutal” is the best way to describe The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.

This is a virtual reality survival RPG that’s surprisingly fleshed out (especially when compared to other VR games).

Set in New Orleans, you’re on a mission that requires you to not only handle hordes of walkers, but also navigate the dangerous politics of two rival factions of survivors.

Adrenaline pumping combat with both walkers and faction members is essential to your survival, but weapons are scarce, and they break easily. So, you have to scavenge and salvage items in order to craft new weapons and healing items.

The gameplay loop is perfect for those who are willing to embrace the “role-playing” aspect of the game. But, if you’re primarily looking for combat, you may be disappointed with how much of the game’s 11-hour campaign is spent looting and crafting.

On the bright side, the voice-acting and environments are both great! Combat with knives, pistols, and bows is brutal and satisfying. Unfortunately, most 2 handed weapons, such as bats and shotguns, feel clunky and difficult to use.

Overall, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is a high-quality VR title that will really resonate with some but will likely fall short for others.
