Yet another game that was on the list and got put back for several reasons. The footage from the old rip was good (for a change) and I ended up taking new footage of the whdload CD32 (hacked) version as well. I initially thought the AGA version was slightly better in graphics, but comparing the videos I now see it was in the audio and SFX that the CD32 really got the boost. My original idea was to run the CD32 version directly and rip directly from that, but I couldnt get the .IMG file I found of the CD32 game to run on any configuration, so I had to go back to the hack in the end and overlay the music. This music is the .WAV files from the .IMG CD I found, and this contained 15 tracks from the game. I edited a lot of the music from the middle levels into a mix of the best bits for the review, although this music appears much later in the game itself. The music I used on the final high score table is actually from the Workshop screens.
Lots of little bits were added on the Friday instead of making a C64 review, as I know it would be better to make this one better than try to cram in another two reviews in a week. I used to be well in front with the C64 shows, but now there is only a few episodes to go I cant find the time to squeeze in both. Yes I did try to add a dance light effect in the battle of a mid-level boss. The effect only half worked, and I didnt want people to think it was part of the game itself, but I didnt want the lights to be obvious and strong either. I used to be a raver way back in the day. Sadly not anymore.
The final thing was the intro, and having waited over an hour for it to render, I saw the ship zoomed onto the screen so fast, it looked like it appears from nowhere. In the editor I can see the missing frames, but they move too fast for the eye. I almost spent another hour to fix this 'magical appearance' bug, but I only just got this online in time, with 1.5 hours to spare, so it would have been tight.
