This is yet another game that I have fond memories of but nobody else on the internet would probably give this so much love. So I waited until the end of the series before doing this one. The graphics are actually far better than Turrican 1 or 2 but I felt a comparison to those two games (where the playability really shines above the graphics) would be a bit unfair. This game only suffers from being way too large, and the player may get frustrated or bored before they make it to a checkpoint. Otherwise I feel this is another hidden gem and one which towers over the likes of Doodlebug and Oscar, and stands around the same mark as another under-rated game I love, Captain Planet. For this reason, I included the Captain Planet music as the title and ending themes, as CP also suffers from too many HUGE levels.
There are only two speech bubbles in this one, making it look like this was a rush job, but really it wasnt, and things just took a long time to get right. Although I started this review in plenty of time, one evening was spent on the narration, another to play it all through, two whole evenings were swallowed up adding the captions and screenshots and getting them to appear in the right places. On the Friday, I had a very quick skim through the audio for the lightest final audio balance you can imagine, and also added the arrows, the intro, and cleaned it up a bit. The review still feels half done somehow, but it was almost 8pm by the time the video had rendered, meaning the uploading didnt complete until almost 1am GMT.
As a special token to all the research sites I visit while making my rough notes, I listed as many as I could on the end credits. Hopefully this will become a new fixture for season 4, although I havent decided whether to go for a fancy new format, or stick to the cartoony feel of the current shows. I have recorded an extra special episode from Christmas, and I will be releasing my crowdfunded documentary around then too, with S4 starting next year. Yes I know its a very long time to wait, but I feel the same way too, so maybe in November I can come back with a mini run of one-off specials, and finish off the top 50 Driving games.
