The Lost Vikings may have been ported to all kinds of machines, including the Amiga, but I feel the Amiga version still has the best music and is most fondly remembered? This review was being planned from the day the Olaf guy was installed into the cartoon intro animation way back when, but for some reason the flow of games reviews has been re-shuffled to filter this one almost out of series 3.
It took quite some time to finesse the fine details, but hopefully the quality of the audio is better in this than in previous vids, as I'm having a software install issue which I'm working through. This was recorded with the old mic and setup. You can hear the odd click in my voice, but try to get rid of those. If you can ever hear a jump in the audio, this was because I edited out an annoying click. The three cut-out characters were moved about until they made their way to console bit. Various issues because this was ripped with the old ripper, stuttering of scrolling, deep bass, etc, but as always I didnt have time to just play the game again and try to fudge a complete copy of what I had recorded. Thankfully we are getting to the end of this old pre-recorded stuff, so that wont be an issue for much longer. I over-balanced the volume to narrate over the comparison zone; which sounded ok for me, I just hope it came out ok and not too loud for you. I wanted to add all kinds of incidental speech, but in the end my dry jokes ran out of time.
BUGS!
I noticed a few bugs in the review. I say press S to activate the 2nd attack move but its actually D. I dont know why I said it, as I know its D from years of playing the game. "Enemies Dont always follow re-defined patterns" - not true. And 'with those three/free codes'? think I meant to say 4 here. "Amiga version is perhaps the best" You can see the 16 colour graphics of this game are nothing special to what we have seen already with other games like Prehistoric and Joe and Mac. Like so many other conversions it does not stretch the Amiga to its limit. The music is the best I'd say. I can see the gaps where I wanted to add speech but didnt get time, but I dont think any of that spoils the review. There you go, my biggest critic is myself. I really should play the whole review sooner to iron out these bugs (I used to have time to play these over and over), but I couldt afford any delays this week; so I just had to run the process, and try and do it all in one 'take'. I would have had time on Friday if it weren't for the C64 review, so I'm not going to run two shows together in future.
