A group of MPs on the Commons select committee has warned that vulnerable households are facing an "inevitable new winter crisis" without additional assistance on energy bills. They have called on the UK government, regulator Ofgem, and energy suppliers to take urgent action, as people are struggling with cost-of-living pressures and debt. While the government provided "unprecedented levels of support" last year to help with soaring energy bills, concerns have arisen as no new assistance has been announced for this winter. The committee suggested extending the Warm Home Discount scheme and providing more support to vulnerable customers while eliminating standing charges on energy bills.
