Sudan war Army chief Burhan claims hes ready for peace talks
Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan's army, has expressed his willingness to engage in peace talks with rebel leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, amid their ongoing internal conflict. This brutal war, which began in April, has claimed over 5,000 lives and displaced more than five million people, according to the UN. Gen Burhan, who seized power in a coup in 2021, seeks international support and legitimacy for his leadership. He denied targeting civilians, despite evidence of indiscriminate airstrikes on residential areas. Both leaders have discussed ceasefires previously, but the conflict has continued. Gen Burhan is confident of victory and stressed Sudan's unity, while international observers remain concerned about the humanitarian crisis and violence.
