Remembering My Brother on His Birthday - Which Is Also Star Wars Day
I shared the story of my middle brother numerous times with the channel over the years regarding his battles with cancer. Back in March, this channel and its fans came through and raised over $550 for the American Cancer Society on the anniversary of my mom's passing. One of the cool things over the years has been how May the 4th has turned into Star Wars Day. The thing is May the 4th was also my brother's birthday. While I was the mega Star Wars fan in the family, he and I still enjoyed the movies together, and this Star Wars Day I wanted to remember and honor his memory on his birthday and share 2 of my favorite Star Wars memories that directly involve my brother Scott.
Empire Strikes Back
I was very young when Empire came out, and I don't have many memories from before I was 5 or 6. But remembering back one of my earliest recollections involves my brother and my Grandmother going to the theater at Capitol Court Mall in Milwaukee, WI and going to see Empire in the theater. I don't know that I even had seen Star Wars A New Hope at this point, and I don't remember much of the day. What I do have is vivid memories of my Grandma and Scott watching the movie, and me asking questions during the Daghobah hut scene. I don't know why that has stuck with me, but I just know that it has. While that mall no longer exists, I have amazing memories of going there with my grandma in later years, going to Woolworth's and getting a hot dog or corn dog at the lunch counter, and later, seeing The Transformers: The Movie in the same theater.
Return of the Jedi
I wish I could remember the family we went with, or the theater we went to, but I distinctly remember going with Scott to go see Return of the Jedi in theaters together as well. I would have been 6 at the time but I know we went with people from Scouts to see it. The weird thing I remember seeing but cannot find proof of it now is that, when the Rebels discovered the Sheilds were still up, I swear two or three ships flew into the deflector. I've never see this anywhere else, but man, I KNOW it happened! I could swear a couple X-Wing or A-Wing fighters hit Death Star II's shields over the forest moon of Endor!
Happy Heavenly Birthday Scott, we love and miss you.
