The NINTENDO SWITCH SUCCESSOR IS COMING Shuntaro Furukawa CONFIRMS!
It is time to start the speculation in real time because Nintendo has made it official! That's right, Nintendo has acknowledged that they will be announcing a successor to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2024. And not just anyone from Nintendo announced it, Mr Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, is the one who made the announcement.
The Nintendo Switch 2, the Super Switch, or whatever the follow up to the Nintendo Switch has been rumored for a number of years. Originally it was thought that the Nintendo Switch Lite could have been a more powerful Nintendo Switch. In contrary, it was simply a handheld only focus device. People thought the Switch OLED would have been the Switch Pro or Switch successor. Not exactly as many of the internals were mostly the same. This is the first legit “something is coming" that Nintendo has confirmed. And just for reference, Nintendo's fiscal year goes from April 1st to March 31st, so we're barely in to their 2024.
So essentially what this appears to be is an announcement of an announcement. It's like people who hold meetings to plan meetings, but I don't mind this a whole lot. What it does is temper expectations for the upcoming June 2024 Nintendo Direct. People would have been bent out of shape and the torches would have been lit if Nintendo did not announce something in the Direct. They did not indicate when the announcement would come, simply that they will make an announcement of new hardware sometime in fiscal year 2024.
How excited are you to hear that this is finally coming? I personally believe this means we will not see Metroid Prime 4 on the Nintendo Switch and that it will instead be a launch title on the new system. Let me know your wish items for this new system in the comments.
