Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense Playthrough
21999, PS-X; DC, 1999; 2000, N64. Rating: 1.5 out of 4 stars
By simply expanding the quest’s length, 2nd Offense is a better game than its predecessor. The designers do a good job providing more depth to the maps and giving the player more options to traverse the area with icons that give your car the ability to hover, ski and drive in water. All of it is a bit clunky, though, and it lacks the polish and energy it should have. The physics are all over the place, the controls are uneven and the single-player feels a bit half-baked. There are objectives for the gamer to accomplish, but it isn’t technically required. You can go on to the next level if you don’t accomplish or even fail a mission objective, which seems a bit short-sighted. A more focused approach would have been nice. Some of the levels work quite well despite this and the AI is pretty smart, but it doesn’t come off the way it should. As a quick time sink, you could do worse. Anything beyond that, though… not recommended.
