007: Tomorrow Never Dies Playthrough

Asking for or expecting a game on par with Goldeneye 007 was probably expecting too much. Few games have achieved the cultural impact that game has. So the follow-up, developed by Black Ops Entertainment, faced a steep uphill battle. Even with that caveat, TND falls well short of even basic expectations. Which is a shame because the movie has plenty of terrific setpieces that would have made great video game levels. At best, they are functional and have some decent parts, but they are few and far between. A sagging, inconsistent framerate with bugs at every corner and shoddy gameplay torpedo this game out of the gate. Even the visuals aren’t that impressive and the voiceovers range from mediocre to awful (particularly the VAs who play Bond and Elliot Carver). About the only things TND has going for it are clips from the movie interspliced between levels and a decent soundtrack. Gamers are better off watching the movie. Regardless of your feelings on the movie itself, it’s decidedly better than the video game, which was getting lapped by Syphon Filter, a similar game released in the same year.
