Zelda: Ocarina of Time MQ Playthrough #080, Ganon's Castle (1/3), Spirit Barrier; Defense Upgrade
This is video #080 in my playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest. When Link approaches the chasm surrounding Ganon's Castle, the Six Sages create a rainbow bridge for him to cross to the castle. And we didn't even have to gather rainbow dew!
Anyway, the entry hall of the castle now has some real enemies to deal with: two Green Bubbles, two Armos, and an Iron Knuckle. It is a good idea to get rid of everything else before going after the Iron Knuckle.
In the castle's main hall, Link takes the first door on the left, which leads into the Spirit Temple rooms. There are a few Fire Keese and a Torch Slug in this room. When they are down, Link can safely shoot the eye switch above the entry door, revealing an Iron Knuckle. Again? But this time, the Iron Knuckle is necessary to smash down the chairs in the middle of the room, revealing a rusty switch. The rusty switch unlocks the door, allowing Link to get into the room to the northeast.
After killing the first Green Bubble, Link should face away from the grate and fire a Bombchu so that it goes through the gap and blasts the crystal switch. This will unbar the door leading forward. The chest here contains some Bombchu. There are a Gibdo and two ReDead in the next chamber, so Link should play the Sun's Song before going through the door.
After defeating another Green Bubble, the Gibdo, and the ReDead, Link will find himself in a chamber surrounded by sun faces. Such fun. To let light into the room, he should blast the webbing in the ceiling with a Fire Arrow. Then, he should reflect light onto the sun face just to the right of the barred door. This reveals a big chest containing the powerful Golden Gauntlets! Easy to get, but also easy to miss. One of the sun faces will also reveal a chest containing a Small Key. The sun face that unbars the door is cleverly hidden behind the spirit medallion symbol above the door. Sneaky. In the room beyond, Link will find the Spirit Barrier. This can only be dispelled by shooting it with a Light Arrow. Nabooru will appear briefly, and Link will be teleported back to the main hall, where the Spirit Barrier will dissipate.
Armed with the Golden Gauntlets, Link heads out of the castle. Yes, out. In the eastern corner of the area outside Ganon's Castle, there is a huge gray stone that Link can lift and toss away to reveal a cave opening. This opening will take him into the final Great Fairy's Fountain. When lured out of her nap in the fountain, the Great Fairy of Courage will reward Link with improved defensive power. Enemy blows will now deal half as much damage as before! This enhancement was definitely overdue.
Thanks for watching!
