If you're a fan of horror games, then you've probably heard of the cult classic, Dead Space.
Now, 15 years later, the game has been faithfully remade from the ground up. But is the remake worth your time if you never played the original?
That was the boat I was in, and I just finished it. So, newcomers here’s what you can expect.
The game's atmosphere is oppressive and claustrophobic, but it looks great visually.
The enemies, called Necromorphs, are really aggressive which makes this game stand apart from other survival horror games, like Resident Evil.
The combat is pretty satisfying, although a little repetitive. It has a cool dismemberment mechanic, but there are a number of different weapons and strategies you can use to take down enemies.
There aren’t really any cheap jump scares; the game relies more on tension and stress to build fear.
The overall plot and characters: they’re decent. But what pushes the gameplay along is a long string of road-blocks that are so outlandish that they feel a little contrived. But this is a video game.
If you think you’d like the Dead Space remake, you probably will, even if you don’t have any nostalgia for it. It’s high quality, and absolutely worth checking out.
