Is virtual reality a good medium for a city building game?

Townsmen VR is presented as an answer to that question, and I was able to try it out thanks to a review copy provided by HandyGames.

The mechanic that justifies this game being in VR is that you can use your god-like hands to directly interact with the island cities that you’re building.

If you don’t feel like waiting on a worker to slowly walk boards or stone to a building for construction, you can just pick up the supplies you need and quickly do it for them.

Or you can pluck up the worker and throw them across the island to get them there faster.

The hands-on element makes this game feel more fast paced than other city builders I've played; which is nice, considering that play sessions are usually shorter in VR.

Your goal is to continuously add to your village, while also keeping your residents fed and construction resources in stock.

You assign specific jobs to your villagers, but you can change their role at any time, based on what you think needs to be done at the moment. It's all very straightforward, but it’s satisfying and addictive.

I’ll admit, when I think of city-builders, my mind doesn’t instantly go to VR. But I think that Townsmen VR proves that the concept works and makes for a unique experience in this genre of game.
