Previously, the party carried out Quest 215: "Catch a Phantom Fish of a Different Colour!" and increased Heorot's Fishing Level Limit to 40. They have now finished all the numbered quests available in the game up to the Version 2 expansion. They also did a little grinding in the Fake Rhone Forest. Now, they will start on the punishing Battle Phantasm competition at the Coliseum.

Rakkaran (time 0:31):

The party resumes in the church in Rakkaran, the Island of Entertainment. They set up their lineup for the upcoming competition.

They enter the Coliseum at B-6 in the southwest of town. On floor 1F, they talk to Clive at D-4/D-5. When they have cleared the story of Version 2 as well as all village and town quests and job quests, Clive provides an explanation of the Battle Phantasm. There are several opponent teams, but at the start, the party can only fight the first opponent team. This is one of those irritating challenges that counts the number of actions party members take in battle. The party will gain stat seeds the first time they complete each bout. Once they have completed the entire competition, they may earn additional rewards if they completed the entire competition under a certain number of moves. For instance, if they complete the entire competition within 700 moves or fewer, they will earn 20 Rainbow Orbs. My goal is just to get through the competition.

The party starts against the Punishment Beauty Duo (おしおき美女コンビ). The opponents are Gretel the Witch (魔女グレイツェル) and Bewitching Juliante (妖魔ジュリアンテ). Of course, Gretel is the witch from the Melsandy storyline and substory, and Juliante is one of the demon sisters from the Gartland storyline. Gretel can still turn the party into bread loaves, and Juliante can charm multiple party members. Because of her charming abilities and whip attacks, Juliante should probably be the party's first target.

My party finishes this bout in 95 moves. They earn 4 Seeds of Magic (ふしぎなきのみ), 4 Seeds of Sorcery (まりょくのたね), and 4 Pretty Betsies (うつくしそう).

The player earns the accolade and trophy "Beginner of Reminiscence" for finishing the first bout in Battle Phantasm.

The party divvies up their new stat seeds. Then, they save with the priest in the Coliseum.

The party talks to Clive again (time 29:00). They start the second bout against the Super Slime Union (超スライム連合). The opponents are a Gem Slime (ゴールデンスライム), Ace (エース), and a Shogum (スライムジェネラル). Ace is the Skill Master's lethal fire-breathing pet Slime. It should definitely go first. Afterwards, the party goes after the Shogum. It has a lethal double-attack, and it can summon a King Cureslime (スライムベホマズン) into battle once one of the enemy group has been defeated. The King Cureslime should be dispatched as quickly as possible, since it can restore 9999 HP to each enemy with Omniheal. After the Shogum is defeated, my party targets the Gem Slime. Its attacks are fairly powerful. It does not have high HP, but only critical attacks deal appreciable damage to it. Also, it counters magical attacks with Magic Burst. To do it over again, I might try taking out the Gem Slime second with crit-or-miss moves, then the Shogum last.

The party finishes this bout in 111 moves. They earn 4 Seeds of Agility (すばやさのたね), 4 Seeds of Sorcery (まりょくのたね), and 4 Pretty Betsies (うつくしそう).

The party divvies up their new stat seeds. Afterwards, they visit the item shop stall. They buy Magic Water so they can make Sage's Elixirs and Faerie's Elixirs for Yggdrasil Dew. After making some Yggdrasil Dew, they make more Sage's Elixirs and Faerie's Elixirs.

The party saves at the church in town. Next time, they will continue the punishing Battle Phantasm.
