Well, the next North American Splatfest is underway. This Splatfest's theme is the ever-popular Vampires vs. Werewolves. I picked the latter because vampires are so overdone (though I'll have something vampire-related for this year's Halloween video) and because a werewolf's weakness is a lot more expensive than that of a vampire. Also, while I love garlic pizza, I know not to eat it when I have to interact with people...so I don't really get to eat it much.

(Also, the Custom E-liter 4K and Custom E-liter 4K Scope were introduced that day. Despite the presence of Moray Towers, I saw hardly anyone using the E-liters.)

In this video, I use the Mini Splatling. Design-wise, this was supposed to be the basic Splatling type weapon, as it's made by the "Splat" company (the company's name is unknown, with "Splat" as Inkipedia's placeholder name) and follows its brightly colored plastic toy theme. Like the other weapons from this company, its brand-name variant uses a clothing company's name rather than its own (that is, Tentatek Splattershot, Firefin Splat Charger, Krak-On Splat Roller, Forge Splattershot Pro, and Zink Mini Splatling). Unlike most of this brand's output, however, this is not the most beginner-friendly weapon in its class, and the development team caught on early in Splatoon 1 and, like in the last game, makes this available after the Heavy Splatling.

The main principle behind a Splatling is that you charge it up, then let go so it can shoot. In this and the fact that Splatlings have very low ink scatter, it's like a Charger, but Chargers have one single clean shot, whereas Splatlings have extremely rapid-fire, high-damage little shots. All in all, Splatlings are also bulky, heavy weapons with slow movement speed, except for the Mini Splatling, which, true to its name, is by far the smallest of them and allows you to move the fastest, though in exchange for by far the lowest amount of shots before it needs to be recharged. On the other hand, it also has the fastest charge time of any Splatling.

Together, this means the Mini Splatling is the most ink-oriented of all of the Splatlings. Your high mobility means you can get to uninked areas or areas with enemy ink the fastest and start covering the ground, but you'll have the most problems with splatting opponents because a full charge gives you barely more than enough ink to splat someone from full HP. However, the quick charge time means the Mini Splatling is also the most adaptable of the Splatlings: The other ones have a problem of not being able to attack back when caught by surprise, but not the Mini Splatling.

While you won't see it here because it's a Splatfest, its ablity to cover turf rapidly makes can make you valuable on any team in Splat Zones, and its rapid fire is handy for bursting the Rainmaker's shield. The Mini Splatling has no special advantages in Tower Control, so use it as normal. All Ranked modes will have opponents usually in close proximity to each other though, and that's good for you when you can fire as rapidly as this thing.

The Mini Splatling comes with the Burst Bombs and Tenta Missiles. The Burst Bombs are good for if you want an arched trajectory, to do quick damage, to ink walls, and to identify suspected ambushers. Nothing out of the ordinary here with Tenta Missiles: Use them to either harass opponents from a long distance or to pressure opponents rapidly closing in to make them easier to splat.

Apparently, all three of my teammates decided they wanted to head down to the middle to do some splatting. I realized recently that it likely means they're used to Ranked, where you WOULD do that. Meanwhile, some opponents had slipped through and are inking our side, and what do they do? Focus completely in the middle, leaving me the only one to have to take them on. Also, what's with the "This way!" cries? What do they want from me? Do they even know opponents have snuck through? Are they going to blame me for some odd reason?

The layout for this one involves a lot of those rotating turnstile-like platforms associated with Octo Canyon. In the middle is a glass wall with the turnstiles on either end, the only way to get through. People eventually figured out how to navigate this stage, but this was still early enough into the Splatfest for that not to be the case with ev eryone.

Match #3

Hey look, one of my teammates is named Cala Maria. No, that's not a reference to the Squid Sisters but is a character in Cuphead. Would've liked to play it as I AM quite familiar with the Fleischer cartoons of old, but it's Microsoft-only.
