- Analysis:
His damage output may seem bad, but in reality, it is just as strong as Ranmaru Mori and Sakon Shima, which is actually pretty good. Considering those two characters are very good. It's just that Gan Ning cannot combo generate and kill as fast nor effective as those guys.
Air R1 is his main damage dealer against any officers. To generate Aggression, Air R1-R1 is good for generating because Air R1 doesn't knock enemies away, but R1 does. Or, he can R1 in a crowd and run to another with S1-R1 to generate repeatedly. Echo helps with extra combo count while doing more damage than Typhoon. Typhoon gets in the way of killing officers enemies are lifted so don't use it.
After Aggression, a full hit Air R1 can OHKO generics, but he has to be close to them to land a full hit. Aggression Air R1 can OHKO ~x2 unflinchable super officers (Gyukis) if hit correctly. His Air R1 actually has 4 hits on unflinchable enemies, as opposed to 3 hits on flinchable enemies. Being able to OHKO ~x2 Gyuki without using Musou, Lion's Fang, Efficacy or Vigor partner setup in this stage is actually a feat in the game, so *applause*.
Gameplay wise, he can Air R1-JC-Air R1 for repeated offenses. That's why Dragon's Eye is there. Air R1-JA for safety, because it lifts Gan Ning up to prevent enemies from camping him out on the ground after Air R1 (this is especially helpful in his archer only runs).
Overall, very usable in regular gameplay, but for casual 'fun' play. Don't expect him to blitz through any kind of stage faster than anyone or to be good in Gauntlet Mode.
