The door chimed open as a customer walked in. The ring of the bell was music to Sojiro's ears as it always meant a few extra yen was soon to line his pockets.

"ugh, man what a day and it's only 9am!"

The suited customer took a seat at the bar. Sojiro grimaced internally. A customer at the bar when there were plenty of seats around the cafe always meant they wanted to talk to him and it was usually about the stresses of their day. Sojiro greeted the troubled gentleman with a smile.

"Anyways, I'll have the house blend today!"

Sojiro never prompted his customers to order with a question. He was there to serve but he wasn't a servant and a man who comes in knowing what he wants was a real man in Sojiro's mind so he made an effort to never start his service with a "what would you like today?"

"Ah, good choice! I just got done enjoying a cup myself and it's the best it's ever been if I do say so myself."

Like a super hero flapping his cape, Sojiro threw his washing cloth over his shoulder and turned to make the coffee, feeling like an artist with an audience as he performed his trade. The parched patron tiredly expressed what was ruining his morning on this particular day.

"The subway has been an absolute nightmare today! The accidents have everybody on edge and I've been late to work twice because of it! My boss said once more and I'm out, can you believe that?"

"You don't say?"

Sojiro, slightly hurt from the customer's obvious lack of appreciation for his refined brewing skills, parroted an array of "no ways!" as he focused on his art. Working in a cafe as long as he had, he could tell how a customer was or how they felt about the topic they were discussing but just hearing the noise their mouth made rather than focusing on what they were saying. This left him to one, appreciate birthing his coffee if no one else would and two, not waste any energy caring about what trvial matter was bothering the customer today.

"And to top it all off, it even started raining! Talk about a crappy start to my week huh?"

Sojiro paused cappuchino craft and turned to the customer.

"It's raining? ... I hope he took an umbrella with him. That stubborn kid. I'll have to stock on some medicinal plants just in case. Hmmm what blend would suit him best..."

Sojiro mumbled on to himself while toying with his beard.

"What's that?"

"Oh, nothing. The house blend is almost finished!"

He turned back to his machine, like a pianist seating before gracing the crowd with music and with a crack of his fingers, he brewed the best house blend is he ever made, if he did say so himself.
